Austin Facilities Management is the leading authority for use and maintenance of City buildings. Austin Facilities Management provides building planning, management, maintenance, custodial, and security services that support reliable, efficient, and sustainable City facilities. Services include but are not limited to: General Facility Maintenance and Repair Custodial Services Security Project Management Grounds & Landscaping Life Cycle Planning and Capital Renewal Property Management Recycling & Repurposing Asbestos, Lead, and Mold Management, Mail Services, and Pest Control.

Assistant Director, Austin Facilities Management

Purpose:

Under minimal direction, this position assists in directing the activities and operations of Austin Facilities Management.

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:

Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will bring a balanced blend of technical expertise, strategic leadership, and strong financial acumen to effectively guide facility operations. The Assistant Director of Austin Facilities Management will play a key role in prioritizing critical repairs with a focus on safety, regulatory compliance, and operational continuity. The ideal candidate will be proficient at developing funding strategies that address urgent needs while advancing long‑term capital improvements, including the implementation of preventative maintenance programs and sustainable, energy‑efficient-initiatives.

The successful candidate will excel in collaboration and communication, ensuring that all services align with organizational expectations and stakeholder needs. This role requires a supportive and steady leader who can maintain operational excellence and provide clear direction during emergencies.

Prior management experience in a large, robust city or organization is highly preferred. Advanced written and verbal communication skills are imperative for this position.
