DEFINITION : Effectively communicates with customers, other departments, architects, engineers & designers to process and issue multiple types of permits & applications for Missoula County Public Works Building Division.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requires high school graduation or GED. ICC Building Permit Technician certification desired. EXPERIENCE:
- Two (2) years of experience in building construction, community planning, permit review, code enforcement, customer service, office administration, or related fields.
- Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to interpret regulations, work with technical information, and provide professional public service may be considered.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires a valid Montana Driver’s License.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Reviews and processes permit applications (online & in person) for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable codes and regulations, including building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, land use & zoning, excavation, approach and address permit applications. Works with applicants to provide guidance on permit requirements and help ensure submittal of proper documentation. Monitors and tracks the status of permits to ensure timely resolution of any issues. Builds and maintains strong working relationships with various County departments such as Planning, Building, Geographical Information Systems, Environmental Services, and Public Works, to facilitate permit approval processes. Coordinates with other departments to resolve permitting issues and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Serves as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, answering inquiries related to permit status, requirements, and procedures. Ensures clear communication between permit applicants and County departments, fostering positive interactions and timely updates. Maintains accurate records of all permit-related activities, including physical and digital filing systems. Assists with preparing and maintaining reports related to permit processes and performance metrics. Addresses any issues or concerns related to permits and permitting processes, including resolving discrepancies or complications with regulatory agencies. Works with local government bodies to clarify permit requirements or resolve disputes when necessary. Participates in trainings and continuing education. Operates modern office equipment such as scanners, copiers, and other office technologies to efficiently process documents. Uses specialized permitting software and finance software to manage permits, fees, and records.
