JOB SUMMARY: This is a skilled position with more than average difficulty in lifeguarding and swim instruction at a municipal pool. An employee in this class is responsible for the supervision and instruction of swimming and a variety of recreational activities at a municipal pool. This includes efficient and safe operation of a municipal swimming pool for the convenience, enjoyment and safety of patrons. A Senior Lifeguard assists with the supervision of subordinate staff and pool patrons and is responsible for maintaining the pool deck, restrooms, changing rooms and surrounding areas.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Safeguards and regulates the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents; instructs proper swimming techniques to patrons of all levels; administers first aid and C.P.R. as needed.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of aquatic programs, swim meets, pool games, etc.
- Maintains pool deck, dressing rooms, restrooms, office and other physical areas of the facility.
- Maintains physical condition by training, including rescue procedure drills, running, swimming, paddling and other necessary conditioning and rescue exercises.
- Warns patrons against dangerous practices; keeps non-swimmers and weak swimmers out of deep water; stays alert of patrons in and around the pool.
- Must effectively and positively represent the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation.
- Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and managers.
The Requirements EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Required: - High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) seasons of paid work experience as a Lifeguard with one (1) season as a Swim Lesson or Water Safety Instructor.
Preferred: - Four (4) seasons of paid work experience as a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor.
- Administered water safety instruction, safety training and rescue programs.
- Supervisory experience or training in the enforcement of rules and regulations for public aquatic facilities.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : - Must possess current certification from American Red Cross in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR and AED upon hire.
- Must possess current certification from American Red Cross as a Water Safety Instructor upon hire.
- Complete and pass a FDLE Level 2 Background Screening as required by the State of Florida.
- Valid Driver’s License: With proof of automobile insurance
- Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
- Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: - Knowledge of the use and application of pool rescue methods and first aid practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of state, local, and city departmental laws, rules and regulations governing the operation and use of a municipal pool facility.
- Knowledge of City of Hollywood Recreation and Parks Department rules and regulations, procedures and requirements.
- Knowledge of the principals, methods and content of aquatics events, pool activities, swim meets and other related programs. Ability to promote interest and support for aquatic programs.
- Ability to instruct individuals or groups, of all ages and ability levels, in swimming techniques, to plan an individualized swimming program in order to develop patrons’ abilities over the course of an organized swim instruction program.
- Ability to work with special and adaptive swim instruction programs.
- Ability to display excellent public relation skills, interpersonal and customer service skills, above-average verbal and written communication skills, good organizational skills and time-management skills.
- Ability to supervise subordinate staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors, managers and the public.

Applicants who are considered for employment will be required to pay $62.00 for the background investigation.
Employment of Relatives: The City of Hollywood has an Ordinance which regulates the employment of relatives of City employees. Effective January 28, 2008, a relative may only be hired under the following additional conditions.

Regularly scheduled non-seasonal part-time employees who average at least thirty (30) hours or more of work per week shall be eligible for the following benefits:All regular part time employees who average at least 30 hours per week shall accrue paid vacation following their employment anniversary date. Employees shall accrue vacation leave as follows:

- Part-time employees who average 30 hours or more per week accrue six hours (6) per month in sick leave accruals. The hours paid to the employee will be the number of hours that the part-time employee was scheduled to work on the date they called in sick.
- Part-time employees who average 30 hours or more per week will receive 12 hours each fiscal year of use-it-or-lose-it time off in recognition of the importance of mental health well-being.
- Bereavement leave is provided for the demise of an immediate family member. All regular part-time employees will receive one work week with compensation based upon the average hours worked in the previous 13 weeks.

- Each employee and their dependents enrolled in the City’s medical insurance plan shall have access to the City of Hollywood Employee Health Center, allowing them to conveniently and exclusively access services ranging from routine primary care, urgent care, preventative care, lab work, vaccines, pediatric care for ages 6 months and older, x-rays, health coaching, and much more. All services at the City’s Employee Health Center are free and at no charge to the employee/dependent, with the City paying 100% of the cost of services.
- Each employee shall have the option of completing an annual comprehensive wellness physical through the City of Hollywood Employee Health Center with the costs of the visit paid for by the City, including a comprehensive medical evaluation, ultrasound imaging, cardio-pulmonary assessments, vision and hearing test, and extensive laboratory blood profiles.
- The City's medical insurance covers Regenexx services with copays based on plan tier. Regenexx is a minimally invasive, needle-based procedure that is an alternative to orthopedic surgery. It uses the body's own healing agents, offers lower risk, and reduces recovery times. - Employees will receive from the City a “use it or lose it” Health Reimbursement Account annually. The amount to the employee is determined by the employee’s medical enrollment status or if no coverage is elected then it will default to the lowest level. The level of the City contribution will be reevaluated once a year. The levels are: Single or no coverage = $400; Employee plus one = $600; and Employee plus two or more = $1000. This benefit is contingent upon the employee completing a biometric visit at the City’s Employee Health Center. In addition, the employee may establish and contribute to a Flexible Spending Account.
