Examples of Duties- Supervises the installation and maintenance of microwave, fiber optic, multiplex, two-way radio, telephone, LAN (local area network)/WAN (wide area network), audio/visual, and related network and telecommunications systems
- Prepares purchase requisitions to procure equipment, materials, and supplies
- Checks to ensure that service requests, work orders, and job specifications are done in a timely manner
- Communicates with user departments to ensure proper IT (Information Technology) support is provided, and to notify them of problems and status of work in progress
- Inspects all work in progress and completed projects
- Diagnoses complex maintenance problems, initiates repairs, or recommends corrective action
- Implements preventive maintenance programs for equipment
- Coordinates and administers technical training programs for staff
- Instructs subordinates on safety practices and enforces safety regulations
- Reviews design criteria and specifications for new systems
- Administers services contracts and ensures they meet standards
- Keeps log of shift activities, maintains records, and reports for monthly activities and personnel
- Prepares comprehensive reports and correspondence
- Supervises, coaches, and motivates subordinates
- Accounts for subordinates and personal compliance with all of Metro's safety rules, polices, and procedures
May be required to perform other related job duties
Minimum QualificationsA combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education- Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent training from a recognized trade school
Experience- Three years of relevant experience performing work in the installation and maintenance of communications, computers and related systems
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements- Federal Communications Commission (FCC) General Class Radiotelephone Operator's License
- Valid California Class C Driver License
- Frequent exposure to physical, weather, electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazards
- On-call 24 hours
- Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required

Pension Plan- PTSC retirement plan is the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Vesting is five (5) years. Minimum retirement age is 52, based on the 2% at 62 formula.
