Description

The County of San Mateo Human Resources Department is seeking an experienced, strategic, and collaborative professional to serve as its next Wellness Program Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and further develop an already robust Countywide employee wellness program that supports the health, engagement, and overall well-being of the County workforce.

The County of San Mateo's Employee Wellness Program reflects the County's belief that a healthy, productive workforce is essential to delivering high-quality public service. The program is designed to help employees be their healthiest and best selves, at work and in their day-to-day lives outside of work.

Through wellness programming, education, policy development, and organizational initiatives, the Employee Wellness Program supports whole-person well-being with an emphasis on physical, mental, emotional, and social wellness. The program aims to strengthen morale and engagement, build a culture of belonging, and support employees with the tools and resources they need to thrive at work and in life.

The Position

The Wellness Program Manager is a specialized management position responsible for recommending, developing, implementing, and evaluating Countywide employee wellness strategies, initiatives, policies, and programs.

This position receives direction from the Deputy Director of Human Resources and works closely with the Employee Benefits Program Manager on initiatives related to preventive care, chronic condition support, and employee assistance resources. The position also collaborates with the Engagement, Equity, and Safety Manager to support initiatives that foster belonging in the workplace.

The Wellness Program Manager supervises a Wellness Coordinator and collaborates with contracted Health Coaches, as well as County departments, employees, labor organizations, committees, health care providers, consultants, and vendors.

The position is based in Redwood City, California, and requires travel throughout San Mateo County to support the program and increase employee engagement.

This highly impactful role is ideal for an innovative leader who combines wellness subject-matter expertise with strong program management, relationship-building, communication, and analytical skills to measure program results.

This is an Open and Promotional recruitment. Anyone may apply. Current County of San Mateo employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in classified regular, probationary, extra-help, or limited term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.
