Requirements

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited* college or university with a major in Communications, Journalism, Public Administration, Public Relations, English or a closely related field** -AND-

OPTION I: Three years of experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Public Information Associate*** assisting in the development, maintenance, evaluation, implementation, and coordination of a public information program.

OR

OPTION II: Three years of professional experience**** as a journalist within a media organization .

One additional year of the required experience will be accepted for each year of college.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class 2 - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

***Experience at the level of a Public Information Associate in the service of County of Los Angeles is defined as: Assists in the initiation, planning, development, maintenance, evaluation, implementation and coordination of a public information and engagement program for an organization. **** Professional experience is defined as: Work experience that exercises specialized knowledge, skills, judgment, and responsibility as a journalist, gained through performing the essential duties in a professional role.

EXAMINATION CONTENT :

This examination consists of two (2) parts:

PART I: A multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted at 65%, assessing:


MULTIPLE CHOICE AND/OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENT(S) ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

PART II: An Evaluation of Training and Experience, weighted at 35%, assessing competencies gained in the following areas:


APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE REQUIREMENTS AND ACHIEVE 70% OR HIGHER ON THE COMBINED SCORE OF PARTS I AND II IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

We provide study guides and other test preparation resources to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides may help in preparing for the test, we recommend reviewing all related materials that seem necessary.



ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:
Applicants who passed the assessment(s) are placed on a list for a period of 12 months. We will use the list to fill vacancies in Public Works as they occur.
