SummaryResponds to crime scenes and other serious incident locations to support the protection of life, property, and preservation of evidence. Flexibility to work, days, evenings, weekends, and holiday hours as needed and during emergency situations. Must be available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesGathers, transports, analyzes, interprets, and stores evidence from crime scenes, death investigations and traffic fatalities according to Department Property and Evidence policiesCollects, processes, and evaluates latent fingerprints, conducts visual and physical analysis and comparison of crime scene latent prints to local, state, and national fingerprint databases and in accordance with Department Policies and ProceduresProvides technical support and training regarding the management, handling and storing of property and evidence for all divisions within the Police Department.Reads and interprets criminal codes, case law, department policies and procedures and/or other materials to increase knowledge and ensure proper legal actionPrepares necessary documentation and evidence for court, attends pre-trail hearings, and testifies in Municipal, County, District and Federal courtsAttends courses, seminars, and in-services to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilitiesInventories, orders, and maintains evidence processing and collection supplies and equipmentResponds to general questions from the public and establishes a professional rapport with the communityDevelops and maintains relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, court systems, schools, citizens, and civic groupsOperates and maintains city-owned vehicles in accordance with Texas Traffic Laws, City and Department Policies and ProceduresCommunicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writingFollows departmental and city policies, procedures, and safety guidelinesPerforms other duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsCombination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, chemistry, or related fieldPass extensive criminal background check, polygraph, and evaluationCertificates, Licenses, RegistrationsValid Driver's LicenseInternational Association for Identification Certification (I.A.I) - preferredAFIS certification (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) – preferred#J-18808-Ljbffr
