Summary

Patrol assigned areas of the medical center to identify and respond to unsafe conditions and emergenciesAnswer calls for unauthorized or illegal activity within the building or campus groundsRespond to combative patients or visitors, fire alarms, infant/child abductions, active shooters, and other emergenciesPerform routine inspections for hazards and unusual situations; lock and unlock doorsHandle trespassing issues, property receipt and issue, deceased patient transport, and related dutiesTest and inspect Public Safety and safety equipment throughout the campus monthlyDocument rounds and write and submit incident reports by the end of the relevant shiftUse the RMS Public Safety incident computer-based system and VH Risk Qual SystemCorrect safety problems or submit work orders, memos, or reportsInspect fire extinguishers and eyewash stations and conduct Environment of Care and other safety inspectionsTest alarm systems and equipment and perform fire watches when requestedMonitor camera, infant abduction, fire alarm, medical gas alarm, and generator alarm systemsInvestigate reports of property loss or damage and criminal activityAssist law enforcement with individuals in custodyAnalyze and coordinate responses to alarms and provide physical Public Safety during emergency incidentsInspect buildings and doors to ensure timely opening and proper securityPick up daily cash deposits for delivery to the cashier's officeSearch patient rooms and property for contraband when requested and render it safeRespond to AirCare landings and takeoffsProvide directions, staff escorts, patient and staff safety standbys, and assistance with disputes or aggressive individualsRespond promptly to fire, biological, mass casualty, lockdown, radiation, and active-shooter emergenciesMonitor ECO/TDO patients, assist with patient transport to BHS, and maintain orderRequirements High School Diploma or GED requiredOne year of previous law enforcement, public safety, college and/or fire department experience preferredValid driver's license requiredBLS Certification (Basic Life Support), American Heart Healthcare Provider (HCP), AHA-approved requiredAmerican Heart Association appropriate certification required before completion of orientationInternational Association for Healthcare Public Safety and Safety Basic Exam required within 1 yearASP baton, handcuff, OC Foam Spray, and aggression management training required within 6 monthsGood public relations and communication skillsAbility to interact successfully with individuals of varying backgrounds and ethnicitiesAbility to work with individuals with special needsAbility to display compassion and help othersAvailable for duty assignment at any Valley Health System facility, temporarily or permanentlyAbility to work alternate shifts and a flexible scheduleAbility to work holidays and weekendsCore Competencies Demonstrates expertise in public safety protocols, emergency response, and safety inspections within a healthcare environment.
