Variable Hour Cadet

Clay County is now accepting applications to be considered for two open positions as Variable Hour Cadet with the Sheriff's Department.

Minimum Starting Salary: $17.73 per hour – Full Salary Range: $17.73-$23.95 per hour

Shifts: Hours and shifts will vary each week *This position will average less than 16 hours per week.

Status: Non-exempt

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma
• Valid Driver's License
• Actively enrolled in a criminal justice or law enforcement program in college.
• Successful completion of a background check

Duties and Essential Functions:

1. Courtroom security and bailiff operations, inmate transport support, and learning judicial procedures.
2. Assist staff with administrative and support tasks, booking and inmate movement, and learn correctional operations under supervision.
3. Participate in supervised rides along with patrol deputies to observe calls for service, traffic enforcement, and community policing.
4. Assist with community outreach, traffic control, administrative tasks, and public service events.
5. Observe investigative processes, case preparation, and evidence handling procedures.
6. Participate in orientation, safety training, ethics instruction, and agency-approved learning activities.
7. Other duties as assigned.
