Position: Assistant Professor of Physical Education
Effective Date: August 18, 2025 (Fall Semester)
Salary: The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $71,100 - $151,128/per year. The anticipated hiring range is $87,000 to $92,000 annually. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications: - Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Kinesiology with a specialization in physical education teacher education or related field. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2025.
- Demonstrated potential to teach at the college level
- Demonstrated potential to conduct research, and engage in other scholarly and creative activities
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including Black/African American, Latine/x, Native American/Indigenous, low-income, first-generation, and minoritized students
Preferred Qualifications: - Prior certified public school teaching experience at K-12 level
- Evidence of successful undergraduate and/or graduate teaching in Physical Education Teacher Education coursework
- Focused research agenda with a record of research publications and/or presentations
- Potential to develop and/or obtain grants and external funding
- Evidence of professional and leadership activities
- Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
- Experience mentoring or supporting students with minoritized identities or experience using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom
Duties: - Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) curriculum [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
- Develop and enhance PETE at the graduate level
- Coordinate K-12 teacher credential programs in PETE
- Conduct and publish research, scholarly and creative activities in area of expertise
- Develop and sustain external funding
- Collaborate and supervise undergraduate and graduate student research, including graduate projects
- Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students regarding career and secondary degree options
- Establish service-learning opportunities for students
- Participate in service to the department, college, university, and profession or community
