The Advanced Cleanup Unit in the Underground Storage Tank Section is seeking a motivated Assistant/Associate Environmental Engineer who can play a pivotal role. You’ll work with a diverse group of team members and stakeholders pertaining to environmental investigations, modeling, and cleanup of underground storage tank projects.
Assistant/Associate Environmental Engineer
- Interpretation of data concerning the extent of petroleum releases in the subsurface (soils, groundwater and bedrock and application of engineering knowledge and standards.
- Implement Department regulations, policies, and guidance in a consistent manner and communicate both in writing and verbally with a variety of parties.
- Review design documents and work plans of moderate complexity from external firms and review draft document
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to the regulated community, public citizens, private environmental consultants, legislators, and others with regard to laws, regulations, and engineering requirements through in-person or online meetings, written communications, and presentations.
Professional Environmental Engineer
- All the duties of an Assistant/Associate Engineer above, plus:
- Review draft documents internally prepared by Assistant/Associate Engineers for accuracy and consistency and provide a recommendation to their supervisor.
- Provide technical guidance to Assistant/Associate Engineers.
To be hired as a Professional Engineer, you must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri.
To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:
- Environmental Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to protect and improve the quality of the environment and its resources; and to monitor, control, abate, and prevent pollutants.
- Teamwork: Encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity; fosters commitment and team spirit; works with others to achieve goals.
- Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
- Assistant Engineer - A bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program and 0-2 years relevant experience.
- Associate Engineer - A bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program and 2-4 years of progressive relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer - Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri with at least four full years of satisfactory engineering experience, as required for licensure.

$58,766-$72,000 per Year
