The Team...

The Environmental Planning Division is responsible for creating and managing programs related to environmental compliance and enhancement. Guided by our award-winning Green Port Policy, it is dedicated to reducing harmful air emissions from port-related operations, improving water quality in the harbor, protecting marine wildlife and implementing environmentally sustainable practices throughout the Port. It is divided into five sections: Air Quality, Water Quality, Remediation, Resiliency, and California Environmental Quality Act/National Environmental Policy Act (CEQA/NEPA).

The Role...

Under the direction of the Manager of CEQA/NEPA Practices and Remediation, the Environmental Planning Intern performs tasks in support of the Environmental Planning Division's mission to protect and improve the environment from the impacts associated with historical operations and maritime goods movement and keep the Port in compliance with all environmental rules and regulations.

SPECIAL NOTE This is an unclassified, "at-will" position. The appointed candidate will serve at the discretion of the Port of Long Beach and can be terminated at any time. In such an event, the candidate has no right to any appeal or grievance procedure under any rule or regulation of the City of Long Beach.

The non-career Intern position typically works 20 hours per week, and cannot exceed an average of 29 hours per week throughout the year, up to a total of 1040 hours in a year for a maximum of two years. Flexibility is offered within typical business hours. The assignment may end at any time, but under no circumstances will it extend beyond two years.
