POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a Police Records & Teletype Supervisor, who will oversee the daily operations of the Records Unit and teletype functions within the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws regarding criminal records, manages a team of records clerks and teletype operators, and maintains secure and accurate recordkeeping and data communications. The supervisor serves as a liaison between departmental staff, other law enforcement agencies, and the public regarding information access and dissemination.

This is responsible supervisory work of more than average difficulty in coordinating the activities of the Police Records and Teletype units.

An employee in this class supervises the receipt, storage, retrieval and disposition of complex police records in a computerized environment, and personally performs complex duties relating to the receipt, storage and destruction of confidential records. The employee works under general supervision of a managerial employee and must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in making work assignments, determining work methods, and in revising or installing new work methods and systems. Employee works under general supervision of a managerial employee, who reviews work in conferences with the employee, by study of reports submitted, by direct observation of work activities and products, and through reports received from other employees and outside individuals and agencies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

High School Diploma or equivalent Three (3) years increasingly responsible administrative and customer service experience.Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education. Two (2) years of supervisory experienceSuccessfully complete a pre-polygraph interview, polygraph examination, and background investigation.If claiming Veteran's Preference, candidates must attach a DD214 Member 4 form, and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J-204) to the online application.

As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.
