DescriptionThis is a part-time non-benefited position working up to 18 hours per week, including evenings and weekends. Currently, there are two vacancies for this position. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used to fill other vacancies as they occur. Under direct supervision, performs basic library support work at main and satellite libraries.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: Positions in this classification typically perform duties at a level of complexity represented by the following types of responsibilities:
Checks library materials out and in; issues library cards and updates library patron records;
Shelves books:
Enters and verifies data in a computerized system and prepares periodic standard reports from provided data;
Collects fines and fees at the counter;
Answers telephone calls, routes calls and takes messages;
Renews books by phone; prepares new patron packets; and
Assists with moving furniture for programming and meeting setup.
Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge of:
Basic practices of library operations.
Typical office equipment, including personal computer and standard office computer programs including word processing applications.
English composition, grammar and punctuation.
Skill in:
Operating typical office equipment, including personal computer and standard office computer programs including word processing applications.
Alphabetizing and numerically sorting materials.
Presenting ideas and concepts orally and in writing.
Following oral and written instructions and procedures.
Utilizing public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, other City employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications: A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: S ix (6) months of general library, general office, public contact or related experience
Education: Graduation from high school or GED
Licensing/Certification Requirements: None.
Working Conditions: Typical library environment.

Non-represented part-time, hourly positions do not qualify for City benefits, except as required by law. Employees are enrolled in Social Security upon hire.
Hourly employees may not exceed 999 hours in a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30) unless previously authorized. There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice.
Salary:
$17.09 - $18.84 Hourly
