Position DescriptionPerforms skilled work in the maintenance and repair of heating and air-conditioning systems to ensure that a comfortable environment is maintained at all times. The scope of responsibility also includes repair and maintenance of all refrigeration equipment located within the facility, and the performance of preventive maintenance in each of the previously mentioned areas on an established periodic basis. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Major/Essential Functions- Checks operation of all HVAC control systems; conducts preventive maintenance on same.
- Responds to temperature complaints; adjusts and troubleshoots thermostats as needed.
- Repairs refrigerators, walk-in freezers, centrifuges, ice machines, etc. for other departments.
- Installs, repairs, and services all refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
- Disassembles, removes, and replaces parts. Services cold storage units, refrigerated air conditioning systems, water coolers, motors, and controls.
- Determines type of oil and refrigerant gas to be used in equipment to obtain proper operating efficiency.
- Recharges refrigeration units and pipe lines. Adjusts expansion and constant pressure valves, thermostats, and pressure switches.
- Uses high and low pressure gauges and calibrates these gauges as required.
- Maintains record of materials and labor expended on each job.
- Works closely with other departments and administration; tracks and recommends needed materials, supplies and parts.
- Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies to maximize the operational readiness of building systems and equipment with due respect to the limitations of cost, regulations, and relative priorities.
- Operate the state vehicle to pick up parts or drive to the job site.
Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of heating and air-conditioning experience. May be required to maintain registrations, professional licenses and/or certifications to perform the duties of the position from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation or other state; willing to pursue additional certifications if necessary.
In accordance with Texas Executive Order GA-48 and applicable state or federal law, this position may involve access to, work on, or conduct research involving critical infrastructure. It will require background checks, including, but not limited to, criminal history and other security-related screenings. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of these checks.
