Description

THE POSITION

New hires in the Senior Parking Lot Attendant classification may be eligible for one-time recruitment and retention bonuses totaling up to $5,000 during the first year of employment.

This position serves as a front-line representative of the City of Sacramento's off-street parking garage operations. As a lead position for this operation, duties will rely on the following: This position is responsible for detailed administrative work and may be required to work during weekends, holidays, nights, and in inclement weather.

To lead and participate in the operation of one or more municipal parking facilities on an assigned shift.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions assigned to the class of Senior Parking Lot Attendant are expected to perform lead responsibilities for other Parking Lot Attendants, as well as to participate in parking lot operations on an assigned shift. Positions in this class are distinguished from those in the Parking Lot Attendant class by the broader range of responsibilities over shift operations and facility maintenance.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

General supervision is provided by a Parking Lot Supervisor. Responsibilities include lead supervision over other parking lot operations and maintenance personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

TYPICAL DUTIES

- Lead and participate in the operation of one or more municipal parking facilities.
- Give claim checks and direct drivers to parking spaces.
- Count and make cash deposits.
- Instruct and direct the work of parking lot operations and maintenance personnel.
- Collect parking fees, compute time parked, and amounts of fees.
- Prepare daily revenue reports and post cash deposits and validations.
- Maintain records of vehicles parked and facility usage.
- Operate automatic revenue control equipment.
- Inspect parking facilities and report maintenance or repair needs.
- Count validation tickets; find and correct errors.
- Provide routine information to the public relating to parking procedures or location of streets, buildings, and points of public interest.
- Identify and report necessary supplies or items to be purchased.
- Assist less experienced personnel by demonstrating work procedures and methods.
- Report accidents or damage occurring on the parking lot.
- Request relief Parking Lot Attendants as needed.
- Relieve other Parking Lot Attendants as necessary.
- Act as section leader in supervisor's absence.
- Other related duties may also be performed; not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual holding this classification.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

- Parking lot operation, regulations, and procedures.
- Fee collection and recording methods.
- Bank depositing procedures.
- Daily reconciliation and reporting of cashiering activities.
- Basic arithmetic and calculation techniques.
- Basic accounting procedures and practices.

Ability to:

- Effectively work with the public and others involved in parking lot operations.
- Operate a cash register, computer, and adding machine and make necessary cash transactions with speed and accuracy.
- Make change and compute accurate parking fees.
- Keep accurate records of fees received.
- Record revenues and identify errors.
- Identify maintenance and repair needs of a parking facility.
- Train, instruct, and assist others in parking lot operations.
- Perform basic repair and maintenance functions at a parking facility as necessary.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

Experience:

Eighteen (18) months of cashiering experience involving considerable public contact and record keeping duties.

Education:

None

An applicant with a college degree obtained outside the United States must have education records evaluated by a credentials evaluation service. Evaluation of education records will be due at time of appointment.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Driver License:

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment. Loss of the Class C License is cause for discipline. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

2. Training and Experience Exam : (Weighted 100%) - The questions located at the end of the application are the Training and Experience (T&E) Exam. 3. Eligibility : Candidates who pass the Training and Experience Test will be placed on the eligible list. The hiring department may contact candidates for interview at any time during the life of the one-year list. Candidate’s eligibility expires one year from the date of notification of a passing score for the Senior Parking Lot Attendant examination.

4. Screening Committee : (Pass/Fail)- All candidates that pass the examination and are in one of the top three ranks will have their application forwarded to the hiring department for review. The hiring department will select the most competitive applications for further consideration. Human Resources will only evaluate employment applications for the minimum qualifications, as stated on the job announcement, for applications selected by the hiring department.

5. Conditional Hire: Upon receipt of a conditional offer, the selected candidate must complete and pass Live Scan/fingerprinting. If applicable, candidates may also need to pass a pre-employment medical exam, controlled substance and/or alcohol test, and possess any required licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the Department. Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment.
