Description

Vacancy is in the Planning Division of the Development Services Department . Under general supervision, manages transportation projects in accordance with the City's Plan of Conservation and Development and Complete Streets Policy. Reviews and provides feedback on plans for streetscapes, traffic calming pilots, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, trail studies, restriping projects, local microgrant programming, and more. Coordinates with vendors, other departments, external public agencies, and community stakeholders to deliver projects in a timely manner. May prepare concepts, preliminary studies, reports, memos, and recommendations on various transportation topics including, but not limited to, traffic calming, transit shelter design, and parking. Administers grant-funded projects, which may require familiarity with federal and state funding requirements. Processes invoices, change orders, and reimbursement drawdowns in addition to proposing budget allocations for both the Complete Streets Fund and Capital Improvement Transportation Asset Class Projects. Reviews and studies appropriate federal, state, and local legislation and best practices as it affects the implementation of transportation infrastructure and policy. Prepares professional reports and makes presentations to elected officials, commissions, and other public bodies. Facilitates the Complete Streets Task Force, providing updates to the public and community partners. Participates in advisory committees for shared mobility, road safety, Vision Zero, and others on an as needed basis. Leads community engagement efforts for transportation projects, from managing email and phone intake of transportation inquiries to the coordination of event logistics such as the development of flyers, distribution of announcements, and creation of presentation content. Attends evening meetings on a monthly basis and weekend events as needed.

This is a CHPEA Union position and the hours of work are 40 per week.

Qualifications

Open to all qualified applicants who meet the following qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college with major work in land use planning, urban studies, public or business administration, architecture, political science, sustainability, community development, law or a closely related field AND two (2) years of responsible professional experience in urban development or planning.

OR

An Associate's degree AND four (4) years of experience in land use planning.

Licenses; Certifications; Special Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment with travel to different sites. Incumbent may be required to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

A COPY OF YOUR DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION. A DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.

If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening examination, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve 3-12 months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
