You'll lead a dedicated team responsible for custodial services, routine maintenance, construction, and groundskeeping across City-operated spaces. Job Description:Purpose:Under general supervision, supervise employees performing custodial, routine maintenance, routine construction, and/or grounds keeping tasks in and around City operated buildings, grounds, parks, airports and recreation areas.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:- Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Plans, develops, organizes, evaluates, manages, and monitors the section's programs and activities. Prepares, develops, and monitors the budget.
- Fills in for absent crew leaders as necessary, assists crew leaders and other employees in performing their jobs.
- Make purchases and utilize the bid process as appropriate.
- Writes memos and correspondence to communicate as needed. Writes reports as needed.
- Monitor contracts and contractors.
- Interacts with other divisions, departments, and the public, coordinate and schedules activities between groups.
- Recommends and justifies capital expenditures.
- Ensure vehicles, equipment and material are maintained and repaired when needed.
- Order supplies and maintain inventory.
- Answer questions and provide assistance to the public
Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:- Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of Building and Grounds processes, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of equipment and vehicles used in buildings and grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of Federal, State and Local laws.
- Knowledge of city practice, policy and procedures.
- Knowledge of supervisory techniques and principles.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge fiscal planning and budget preparation.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Skill in using computers and related software.
- Skill in planning and organizing.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public
Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent and five (5) years experience related to janitorial or grounds keeping services, including at least two (2) years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- One (1) year of additional experience may substitute for one (1) year of High School, up to a maximum of four (4) years substitution
Licenses and Certifications Required:- If assigned to operate vehicles, must possess the appropriate Texas Driver's License for those vehicles
Preferred Qualifications:- Inventory Control: Experience using inventory management software to order and track custodial supplies.
- Quality Inspections: Experience inspecting custodial work and integration with custodial management software (CMS) and reporting.
- Custodial Management Software (CMS): Experience with CMS including staffing, budgeting, project timelines, and inventory.
- Supervisory Experience: Experience leading and managing custodial teams for a multi-site organization or government entity.
- Employee Accountability: Experience writing employee performance review (annual, mid-year, etc.), documenting performance gaps, and providing constructive feedback.
- Green Seal Standards 42: Experience with Green Seal 42 standards and requirements for certification GS-42: Commercial and Institutional Cleaning Services.
- MS Suite: Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite to include Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Hours may vary depending on departmental needs and initiatives. Some evening, weekend and holiday work may be required.

Salary Range: $25.22 - $29.70 hourly This position may require an assessment.
