Minimum QualificationsELECTRICAL-MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN I Licensing and Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driver’s License. Some positions may require a California Class A driver’s license.
Possession of a valid California Grade D1 & D2 Distribution Operator Certificate must be obtained within eighteen (18) months of appointment to this job classification.
Incumbent must maintain compliance with California mandated licensing and certification requirements for this position.
Education and Experience: Previous work experience performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled electrical and mechanical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair work on electrical and/or mechanical equipment and systems is necessary.
Experience with water, sewer, and wastewater treatment equipment and systems is preferred.
ELECTRICAL-MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN II Licensing and Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driver’s License. Some positions may require a California Class A driver’s license.
Possession of a valid California Grade D1 and D2 Distribution Operator Certificate.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the entry-level class in the Electrical-Mechanical Technician series. Incumbents perform electrical and mechanical repairs on water, sewer, and wastewater equipment and systems. Work assignments require previous experience and proficiency to perform skilled work. Many of the assignments at this level may be performed in a training capacity as an incumbent becomes familiar with the specific equipment and systems used in Lake County.
This class is distinguished from the Electrical-Mechanical Technician II in that incumbents perform a narrow range of duties under direct supervision.
Positions in the Electrical-Mechanical Technician series are flexibly staffed. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining the knowledge, skill, experience, licenses, and certifications which meet the qualifications for and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives direct supervision from assigned supervisory staff. Exercises no direct supervision over staff. May provide lead direction, work coordination, and training, as assigned.

- Performs a variety of electrical and mechanical work involved in the maintenance, installation, and repair of water, sewer, and wastewater equipment and systems; troubleshoots failures and performs repairs to electrical control systems.
- Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of wastewater and potable water systems, facilities, and equipment, including water and sewage pumping plants, wells, hydrants, water systems, and sewer mains.
- Installs, dismantles repairs, or replaces circuit breakers, combination motor starters, electrical contractors, relays, switches, wiring, sensors, electrical panels and pedestals, pumps, sprinklers, motors, pumps, bearings, seals, and drives; adjusts belts, couplings, and pump packing.
- Operates and performs basic maintenance on power-driven and heavy equipment such as drill and hydraulic presses, power saws, steam cleaners, air compressors, trucks, cranes, backhoes, and sewer cleaning machines.
- Assists with estimating materials, equipment, and staffing needs for maintenance and repair projects; obtains requisite project materials and equipment.
- Ensures that projects are completed in conformance with requisite work and safety standards; maintains project records.
- Coordinates assignments with other County operations and departments.
- Responds to off-hour emergencies, risks to public safety, and/or health code violations.
- May provide lead direction, work coordination, and training, as assigned.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: - Methods, equipment, procedures, and safety protocols used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, process control, and instrumentation equipment.

HEALTH AND INSURANCE BENEFITS - Medical, dental, hospital, vision, life and disability coverage is available to employees and their dependents. The County contributes $1,500 of the monthly premiums for the insurance plan options.
VACATION ACCRUAL may be adjusted for current city or county government employees.
VACATION - 80 hours per year during the first five years of service, 120 hours per year after five years, and additional accruals based on years of service beyond fifteen years. Pro-rated for part-time employees.
SICK LEAVE - Accrues at a rate of 96 hours per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees.
HOLIDAYS- An average of twelve paid 8-hour holidays per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees.
SALARY - Lake County has an adopted salary schedule. The salary range for most classifications is in five increments with a provision for longevity increases. Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range.
SOCIAL SECURITY - County employees participate in Social Security.
CALIFORNIA STATE DISABILITY INSURANCE - SDI is available to some County employees.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLANS and CREDIT UNION MEMBERSHIPS are available to County employees.
