Description:Jefferson County, located in Golden, Colorado, seeks an experienced attorney to perform a variety of complex transactional and contract work for the County Attorney's Office. The attorney will support a mixture of County divisions and elected officials. The work will include reviewing and drafting a variety of contracts. Such transactional work may include leases, license agreements, real estate purchase and sale agreements, deeds, easements, SAAS agreements, grants and land use work. This position also includes representation of boards and commissions and providing general legal advice.
The Jefferson County Attorney’s Office consists of approximately 40 attorneys and staff members who work collaboratively to provide a full range of legal services to Jefferson County. This position will work on the transactional team in a technologically advanced, sophisticated, and collegial work environment, with County clients and agencies, elected officials and the public. The County Attorney’s Office provides flexibility in creating a work schedule that promotes a work-life balance.
Depending on qualifications, this position may be hired as an Assistant County Attorney at the Staff or Associate level. The Staff position is an entry-level attorney position. The Associate position will typically assist other attorneys in making decisions regarding their workflow, and interactions at the Associate level are typically concerned with providing communications at higher levels of organizational operations and may utilize activities such as evaluating customer satisfaction, developing cooperative associations, and allocating resources to improve work operations, work quality, overall achievement of organizational goals and objectives, and customer satisfaction.
SCHEDULE: This position has the potential to operate on a four-day, 40-hour work week (Monday-Thursday) or a standard work week (Monday-Friday). This position also offers the opportunity for remote work on some days of the week.
COMPENSATION: Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.
The anticipated hiring range at Staff level is $98,000 - $110,000
The full salary range for this position at Staff level is $91,374.29 - $146,198.86
The anticipated hiring range at Associate level $114,000 - $144,000
The full salary range for Associate level is $110,821.29 - $177,314.06
Compensation will depend on education and experience and equivalency under the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:- The attorney will be on the Operations - Transactional team in the County Attorney’s Office.
- The work involves drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of contracts, grants licenses, intergovernmental agreements, leases, and other related documents. It will also include representing various boards and commissions and providing general legal advice to County staff and elected officials.
- The attorney will also meet with County clients and the public, represent elected officials, and review or draft legislation, ordinances and policies.
- The list of clients represented by the attorney may be revised based on the attorney’s previous government experience, but the work will remain focused on transactional work and general counsel advice.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications:
- JD or LLB from an accredited law school.
- Three (3) years of transactional or contract work experience.
- Licensed to practice law in Colorado and in good standing with the Colorado Supreme Court.
- A writing sample is required and must be attached in order to be considered for employment. Appellate writing samples are preferred.
- Note: An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Industry-specific Transactional Knowledge:
- Human Services, including community assistance, community development, Head Start and / or workforce development
- Public Health / Environmental
- Human Resources
- Real Estate Prior experience working in local/county government and representing public boards and commissions.
Soft Skillset:
- Detail-oriented
- Good organizational and negotiation skills
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and co-workers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
