Description
OVERVIEWServing democracy at the local level is both a responsibility and a privilege-and few roles offer the opportunity to make a more direct impact than supporting elections. The Kitsap County Elections Division of the Auditor's Office is seeking temporary employees to help administer elections for more than 200,000 registered voters across Kitsap County.
This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the integrity of the electoral process while gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced, mission-driven public service environment. Whether assisting voters at Vote Centers, processing ballots, or supporting large-scale election operations, Election Workers play a vital role in ensuring every voice is heard and every vote is counted.
As a Temporary Election Worker, you will:- Support the administration of local, state, and federal elections by performing assigned duties across ballot processing, voter services, and Vote Center operations.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of voter registrations, ballot materials, and election-related data for a county-wide electorate exceeding 200,000 voters.
- Assist voters directly by providing customer service at Vote Centers, answering incoming calls, and delivering clear, accurate election information.
- Process incoming ballots and voter registration forms using strict rules, procedures, and security protocols to maintain election integrity.
- Maintain precise data entry and validation within election systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Collaborate with Elections Division staff and fellow Election Workers to meet high-volume operational demands during election cycles.
- Support production and logistics operations, including preparing, delivering, reconciling, and securing election materials.
- Operate efficiently in fast-paced environments, balancing accuracy with productivity during peak election periods.
- Adapt to various assignments and work environments, including office settings, public spaces, and outdoor locations.
Professional Credentials / Licensing- Valid driver’s license (required for certain production and ballot collection roles): Ensures the ability to support secure transport of election materials when assigned.
Leadership / Management Experience- Ability to work independently and as part of a team: While not a supervisory role, reliability, accountability, and collaboration are critical in time-sensitive election operations.
Technical / Industry Background- Basic computer proficiency: Required to perform ballot processing, data entry, voter lookups, and Vote Center tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Data entry experience: Supports the high standards of accuracy and integrity required in election administration.
Specialized Expertise- Attention to detail and proofreading skills: Essential for maintaining voter record accuracy and ballot processing integrity.
- Ability to follow strict rules and regulations: Elections require precise adherence to legal and procedural standards.
- Multi-tasking capability in fast-paced environments: Necessary during peak election workloads and deadlines.
Communication / Interpersonal Skills- Customer service skills: Ability to assist voters professionally, answer questions clearly, and communicate election information with accuracy and courtesy.
- Team-oriented mindset: Elections are collaborative efforts requiring cooperation and mutual support.
Additional Preferred Qualifications- Physical capability: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, lift and move materials up to 25 lbs., bend, reach, and handle documents or equipment.
- Flexibility and adaptability: Willingness to take on varied duties as operational needs evolve throughout the election cycle.

Onboarding of selected candidates will take place in May of 2026. Training will commence in May or June for the 2026 election cycles.

- Driving Requirements (If applicable)
The successful incumbent must meet the driving requirements of this position and submit a copy a current driving record/abstract (from state of residency) to review for eligibility to drive for Kitsap County prior to employment. The successful incumbent must obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License prior to hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record as outlined in the Kitsap County Vehicle Use Policy. This position is categorized as:

- The office is open 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m. Monday through Friday. The number of work hours will vary according to the workload. During peak election cycles some positions may work evenings and weekends.
- Only authorized employees and hiring authorities have access to the application materials submitted. - Selected candidates will be hired on at Step 1 at $17.13/hr.
